I had a disappointing experience today (25/10/2019) at Harvey Norman's Tauranga branch on Cameron Rd. My wife and I went in to look at camcorders with accompanying SD card and case, and was assisted by the very helpful Stu. Unfortunately, the store does not have any charged batteries, and so I could not try out the camcorder in store. Stu put a battery on charge for us and we said we would do other shopping and return later. So far so helpful.

When we returned later, Stu discovered that the battery had been knocked off its charger and so had not charged enough for us to test out the camcorder. So I agreed I would return in the afternoon, allowing 3 hours for the battery to charge this time.

I returned after 3 hours but I could not see Stu -- when I enquired of him, I was told that he was on his lunch break and would be ½ hour or so. However, a couple of minutes later I saw Stu in another part of the store assisting another customer (in other words, I was told a lie), so I let him know I was there and waited. In the meantime, other sales staff tried to help me but I told them I was waiting for Stu.

Eventually, Stu said that Lachlan would help me while he was with the other customer, and so Lachlan tried to sell me something much more expensive than the camcorder that I was looking at. When this did not work, Lachlan allowed me to try the camcorder with the now-charged battery, which I then bought along with an appropriate SD card (of which he also tried to sell me the more expensive version) and an appropriate case. Lachlan then tried to sell me an extended warranty (even offering a 35% discount), which I declined. However, Lachlan redeemed himself by offering me discounts on the SD card and case which I accepted. He then entered the details on the store's computer, and took me to the till by the door, where I paid according to the details he had entered.

When I got home, I went to store away my receipt and noticed that I had been charged twice for the case. I called the Harvey Norman number on the receipt and someone with very poor English responded (I had to get her to say her message three times before I could understand her), who eventually put me through to "Judy" at the store (who spoke English perfectly). I explained that I had been charged twice, and Judy said I should return to the store for a refund. The store is 15km round trip, so I was not pleased that I had to go to the store for a third time today! However, I returned to the store and got my refund, with the cashier at the till apologising to me.

I was happy about the products that I had chosen and happy with the discount that Lachlan gave to me, so for that I would have given this store 4 stars. However, this was offset by having to go to the store two more times than I needed to: firstly, because the store does not have a policy of keeping charged batteries available for prospective customers to try out camcorders or other electrical goods; and secondly, that I was overcharged by Lachlan who pretended to give me a discount. For this double disappointment I took away three of the four stars. The over-charging was reversed (and so one start is redeemed) but only because Lachlan was caught out -- what if I had not noticed? I will not trust him again.

Having to return to the store the first time may be due to an accident/mistake; but having to return twice in the same day, *and* be lied to about Stu's presence *and* the store's phone being manned (or womanned) by someone with poor English, looks like there is something systemically wrong with the management of this store. It will take a lot for me to return to this particular store.

Pretty good. Their prices are quite high for some things but you ocassionally get lucky and can get the salesperson to drop the price a little.

Harvey Norman, please train your stuff on how to price match. If a retail shop is selling a product for less price than you, then you should be able to price match it. If bunnings can do it then you too should be able to.

Purchased a 55 inch 4K UHD Panasonic TV from HN. Whilst the TV is an excellent product which I'm very happy with. The salesperson was needlessly boorish and aggressive in trying the make the sale.
I definitely don't wish to deal with this person again.

By way of contrast, I picked the TV up myself from the HN warehouse in Christchurch and the guy who served me was very helpful and courteous.

Harvey Norman is ripping off their customers. I purchased an Electrolux freestanding gas stove...the price has fluctuated up and down over $2k. I paid $5455 a few weeks back and had price altered after complaint to them and reduced in cost...right now Noel Leeming has it for $5179 and Harvey Normans has it back up for $7369. Same stove...same model!

    Made in China

Went to Hunters Furniture looking to buy a leather lounge suite and found a nice L shape one which was made by a NZ company.

I mistakenly went to Harvey Norman Dunedin and the sales guy directed me to the Demi 3 Seater Leather Lounge with Chaise by La-Z-Boy.

I was lead to believe the lounge seat was made by a NZ company and was a about the same price ($6,000) as Hunters but this one was bigger so I went with Harvey Norman.

The sales guy said it would take the NZ company about 4 weeks to make, no problems...happy to wait.

When lounge arrived found out the lounge was made in China and NOT NZ.
I emailed Harvey Norman head office and they apologized for the confusion and they will now update there website to say the lounge is made in China.

Hopefully they have informed the sales guy.
    Live and learn....buy NZ made.

My Galaxy S5 was given in for repair towards the end of my warranty period due to it randomly shutting down. They returned it saying it was fixed and by then I was already using another phone. Last week I gave it to my mum to use and turns out they never fixed it. After a couple of days, the same issue started. Will never buy anything from them again.

Dishonest. Purchased a Sony Xperia Xz1 about 3 weeks ago in early May 2018. It was priced at $999 I asked what they could do with regard to some discount. The sales lady went away then came back and said they couldn't discount it as there was "No margin on these" . Today I'm lookin on pricespy they're selling for $948 ! Bloody Liars. Also Jb Hifi have the same phone today for $849 ! NO margin ?

Recently purchased fridge freezer from Whakatane branch...or thought I had.The item was labelled "3 left" so I was happy to buy one, pay in full and arrange to collect it in 2 weeks when I moved house. The following day recieved a call from the sales rep Nic to be advised the 3 in stock had been purchased and dispatched to other customers AFTER I had paid for one.
My options were to receive refund or buy shop floor item. I requested a discount due to the inconvenience, incompetence and the fact that it is shop soiled. Nic advised they were unable to offer this. I expressed my dissatisfaction but to no avail so had to make 30 minute journey again to gain my refund. I wrote 2 letters of complaint, the first being ignored, the second being replied to with apology yet again. I explained this was not satisfactory and was finally offered HN voucher ( of no use as I had already advised i would not be shopping at HN again) no further offer was made.
Poor service, untruthful service, no recompense.
Result bought better item in Smiths City with excellent service as well. GO Away Harvey Norman!

Rude staff in Lower Hutt computer section, was looking at ipad mini to see what the default text size was like and stalked from behind and told we dont allow browsing on our devices! 2 monthe earlier I wanted an ipad air 2 and they were way more than the apple store price (prices were lowered after iphone 7 release) I printed the apple store prices but HN wouldnt believe me. I bought a 9.7" 256gb pro in warehouse stationary for 1299 later that day.

Harvey Norman is a horrible store to buy electronics from due to Harvey Norman being soo overpriced, especially with their computers!. Harvey norman tries to rip everyone who doesnt know anything about computers, like for example they would have 2 $2.7k laptops that are the exact same model but one has an Intel i7 6700U cpu and another would have an AMD a8 or a10 in it and they will "claim" that both the Intel and AMD cpu are the same which is a 100% not true. At the moment in the world of computers Intel is like a Lamborghini its really fast but expensive and the AMD is like a bicycle its slow but cheap. The AMD laptop shouldnt be $2.7k its more of a $1k laptop and even tho the Intel laptop is ALOT faster its still not worth 2.7k, i went and bought the exact same laptop with an i7 and a m.2 ssd from pbtech which was priced at $1.7k. NEVER BUY A PC TOWER OR LAPTOP FROM HARVEY NORMAN because half of their laptops have a 100% markup on it from other retailers and for the pc tower they have more than a 300% markup on it. Harvery Normans $3k War Rig pc tower actually costs $1.6k at pbtech but the brandings and appearance are different due to it being custom built.

Generally I steer clear of the "Big Box" appliance stores, such is their reputation for knowing virtually nothing about virtually everything, but it just so happens that Harvey Norman are the only department store reasonably close to my new home, and much to my surprise when I ventured timidly into their showroom to buy a TV, they actually know their stuff and were very well set up with a good selection and friendly staff.

    Wonders will never cease.

Anyway, I felt when I left that I had been well looked after, not pushed into anything, and happily there's no buyers' remorse the following day.

I guess it's a lesson to me to test my prejudices every now and then - they may turn out to be out of date.

Bought a TV and wall bracket from them (online via Lower Hutt store) recently and had nothing but excellent service from them.

I picked up the wall bracket but couldn't fit the TV in my car, so they offered to deliver it for a reduced price. I found the wall bracket wasn't compatible with my wall, so they arranged for the TV delivery team to also pick up the wall bracket, and refunded my credit card no questions asked. Communication from them about what was going on was excellent throughout.

    Very happy customer.

Fast delivery, good communication and kept me up to date on the ordering process (much better than other big competitors that I've used, usually their online store is so-so) Ordered Saturday/sunday and item arrived on tuesday morning. Well packed, was a little worried initially since two of the seals at the top seemed to have been opened but the contents of the box seemed untouched and after using it for a few days now, everything seems to be in order.

Not many feedbacks made on Harvey norman site and the ones that are available seem to tell a different story to my experience. It seems they could be a minority case (since happy customers rarely leave feedback) so hopefully anyone considering buying from their online shop can be a bit more confident after seeing my feedback.

As much as it is great experience shopping at their physical stores, especially Mt Wellington store in Auckland, shopping online with them is mediocre. No info about the stock. I bought Dish tv box recently, only to receive a phone call from the store (I was suppose to collect the goods from) a day after order was processed and my money taken and to be told that they don't have a stock and it's going to take 2 weeks to get it from NZ supplier. WTF? I asked, are you ordering from Algeria? I get my items from Ebay and Amazon sellers quicker then that. HN should take a leaf out of The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery books how to provide great and efficent online shopping experience.

Ordered a tablet for my little sister's birthday. I was expecting it on the day after her birthday but it didn't arrive so I keep waiting incase of delays (this was just after holiday season) but still nothing a week later. So I contacted their customer service asking for a track and trace number but got no reply. Finally two days after that I recieve an email confirming they have sent the package and give me a track and trace, so I look it up. I find out it has been at the courier depot since the earliest date I expected it but they wrote the name, address, postcode all completely wrong and different from what I imput on the online order. WTF! I signed and got it but pissed me off that they messed this up and never gave me a track and trace at time of order. Will never order from again, would not recommend to anyone.
P.S I emailed them this and got no reply either. Terrible customer service.

Probably the worst store I've ever had to deal with. Had hardware problems with my Samsung Galaxy S3, which turned out to be faulty even though it was under extended warranty - but the repair company still charged and staff were very reluctant to help. All up took 4 weeks from first send off to get it all sorted, I really wish I brought my phone somewhere else. Awful experience, ended up having to pay to get my phone back, still not repaired - never dealing with this franchise again.
