Local storage of data and similar technology

In order to give you the world’s best price and product comparison site we need to store data locally on your device, use cookies and other similar technologies. Here we explain what technologies we use and what we use them for.
What is meant by local storage of data, cookies and similar technology?

Local storage of data involves storing different types of data locally on your device via your web browser. Locally stored data can, for example, contain user settings, information on how you surf on our websites, which web browser you use, which advertisements you were shown, and similar behavior on websites we cooperate with. Locally stored data can be used to personalize the content and functions in our services so that your visits are better accommodated for and more meaningful.

One method of local storage of data is cookies. These are small text files that are stored on your device (PC, mobile phone or tablet) which enable us to recognize your web browser. Cookies do not contain directly identifiable information about you (such as name, address, phone number, etcetera), but rather information about your web browser and any activity that has taken place there.

In addition to local storage of data, we use other, similar technology such as web beacons/pixel tags. This technology recognizes cookies and identifiers, and enables third parties to set cookies on your device. Web beacons can be used to determine which advertisements should be displayed in your web browser.

In this document the term "local storage of data" is used as a collective term for cookies, web beacons and other similar technology.
Why do we use local storage of data on our websites and apps?

We use local storage of data for a range of purposes, such as: enabling us to deliver our services to you; giving you relevant, personalized content when you visit our sites; measuring and analyzing traffic on our websites; improving our services; and targeting advertising. More details about these topics is given below.
Who else uses local storage of data on our websites?

We use local storage of data ourselves, and we allow our suppliers to use it when they deliver their services to us. These suppliers are subject to data processor agreements, and are not allowed to use the data for purposes other than to provide the service we have requested.

In addition to our own use, we also offer third parties the opportunity to use local storage of data on your device when you visit our services. We have devised stringent guidelines for how third parties may collect and use data concerning our visitors in Schibsted's Data Policy for Advertisers. The guidelines state that data may only be used for clearly defined purposes.
Areas of application for local storage of data

a) To deliver and adapt the services to your use

Some local storage of data is necessary and required in order to enable you to use our services, such as information about your settings, which tell us how the services should be presented in your web browser.

We also use local storage of data to adapt our services to your use as best as possible, or to allow use of special functions such as the option to keep your previous searches and saved listings.

b) To analyze and improve our services

We use various measuring tools that provide us with statistics and analyses regarding our services. These tools enable us to recognize your web browser over time and to find out whether you have visited the website previously and if so how often. These tools offer us the possibility to gain an overview of how many unique users we have and how they use our services.

Furthermore, we use the information we have collected and analyzed to develop and improve our services and cooperating services in Schibsted Media Group; for example by finding out which services generate a lot of traffic or by seeing if a service is not working optimally.

c) Our advertising

We use local storage of data in connection with our and Schibsted's advertising activities. This enables us to learn whether and how often you viewed an advertisement or certain type of advertisement, and how long ago you viewed it. We also use local storage of data to build segments and target groups for marketing purposes and to target advertisements. You can read more about how segments and target groups are created in connection with advertising here:

We also use local storage of data placed by Schibsted on other sites in connection with our and Schibsted's advertising when you have visited other websites we advertise on, as well as local storage of data that is set by other actors. This provides us with information about e.g. which website you visited before you visited our services and enables us to target our advertising based on this information. For example, we can show you advertisements about travel if you recently visited an airline company's website. The information we obtain through local storage of data does not contain directly identifiable data. We receive information about which pages you visited, but not about who you are.

d) Third-party advertising

As on other commercial websites, on our services you will also find advertisements that are supplied by other actors. Most actors use local storage of data. Local storage of data is used to find cookies or anonymous identifiers on your device to find out which advertisements should be displayed or which advertisements have been displayed in your web browser. Local storage of data is also used to measure the effect of advertisements by measuring how many users clicked on a specific advertisement and how many actually completed a purchase. We do not enable this data to be directly linked to you. We do not have the capability to read data from third-party cookies like these.

These companies may use local storage of data to target advertisements at you on other websites based on your visit to our services. You can learn more about this type of advertising here:
How can I manage locally stored data?

You can either adjust the settings in your web browser or use special programs that have been developed to manage cookies. The settings in your web browser normally show a list of all the cookies that have been stored to provide you with an overview and, if you wish, to delete unwanted cookies. Normally you can indicate that you accept storage of cookies from websites you visit or from third parties affiliated to those websites. You can also choose to be notified every time a new cookie is stored. Guidance on how to do this in different web browsers is provided below. Your web browser normally stores cookies in a specific folder on your hard disk, so you can also examine the contents in more detail.

We have also prepared a list of the main forms of local storage of data that are present on our website and more details about their purpose. The list is available below. However, the cookies that are present on the website change frequently, and not all cookies are equally important. We will therefore update the list of which cookies are available regularly.

Furthermore, services are available that have been specially developed to provide users with a fully updated list of cookies and other tracking mechanisms. See for example or
NB: Disabling cookies from our services may prevent our website from working properly. For example, you may have to log in every time you visit us, and may receive random advertisements rather than ones that are relevant for you.

Instructions on managing cookies

Presented below is a summary of how locally stored data can be managed in different web browsers. Note that this process may change and that the descriptions given here may not be updated accordingly.

How can I control what information is sent to advertisers?

If you want to control what information is sent to advertisers, you can download an opt-out cookie from different advertisers or use alternative solutions, such as Note that you must follow the same process for each device you use, and for each web browser on your devices.
