Ok, I have a M42 - EF adapter for my camera, so I can use my awesome M42 lens.

I recently got a new one with an af confirm chip built in, but it doesn't work.

I turn on my camera, and get the message:

"Firmware update failed.
Try updating again."

I got 2 adapters, and both give the same issue.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

You updated the cameras firmware i take it?

Try moving to AV mode on the camera?

The problem appears to being caused by the lens adapter.

Everything works absolutely fine with any lens, I've never updated the firmware in my life, as it came on the latest version.

On Aperture Priority there is no difference.

The message appears when I fire up the camera, or attach the lens ( adapter ).

Sometimes it throws the error:

Err 01

Communications between the camera and lens is faulty.

Please Clean the lens contacts.

There is an option to "Ok" away the error message, where it says "Update lens firmware failed", and I can't go any further than that.

So it seems to be wanting to update the lens firmware

I have an Canon EOS400D, I had to update the firmware in the camera for one of the newer canon lenses...... think of it as a MB bios update for a newly released cpu....

Sorry can't help....

Ask wherever you bought it off if they have some suggestions (and definitely don't just send it back before checking with them).

My response was:

"What reason is not working?
Kinding regard!"

Even though I did state in my original message the issue.
