So many i7 configs here, must be either alot of professional video editors or rich gamers :S

CPU: Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6Ghz
HDD: 160GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
RAM: 1GB DDR2
OS: WinXP

Wireless: 802.11b/g
Webcam (1.3 MP)
10" LCD

Yeah so its an Asus eeePC 1000HA netbook.
Used to have a similar system to johannes (Q6600,8800GT,AsusP5KC) but i tinkered with the motherboard a bit too much and killed it, which gave me a reason to upgrade so im planning a X3 720 + 5850 based build.

And why is it that most people skew their i7 build with a rediculously beasty CPU and a relatively underpowered graphics card?

Looking for a good 22" monitor for gaming, anyone got lots of praise for theirs?

half the guys at my work (we work in IT) for our gaming rigs run the LG W2252TQ, and it runs quite well

the only downside is there isn't an HDMI input

as for graphics cards (at least for me anyway) the difference between spending $500 + for a new top end graphics card, and spending $200 to get a 2nd 4850 and run crossfire was only about 10 or less in some cases in most games, considering the games are running at 50-60 FPS anyway, can't justify spending 2.5 times the price just for a few more frames that I won't notice the difference on...

also when I got my i7 it was relativley cheap, probably won't be upgrading the CPU and mobo for another 2 years

but probably at the end of this year when my 4850's start lagging I will look at probably going back to a single card and keeping it in spec

My friend's 8800 GTS 640MB just died about a week ago...

He was using another friends 7900GS in the mean time just so he could use his PC and is going to upgrade to a Radeon 5xxx...

However after reading about success stories reflowing the solder on GPUs... (OCN.net, and YouTube) I figured we had nothing to lose by trying it, so we preheated the oven to 195C (or so), removed the fan/heatsink, put the card in the oven, propped up on balls of wadded up aluminium foil, baked it for about 9 minutes and took it out... it cooled in 7 minutes or so, so then we stuck it in his computer and WOW it actually works! couldn't hardly believe it.

Reassembled card with fresh thermal paste, and it will be used for a couple weeks while my mate saves up for the upgrade!... hard to believe it actually works using a normal kitchen oven...

Anyway just a little story sorry it's off topic

Although attempting to resurrect a dead video card is intriguing, all it would do is enable me to try and flick it off to someone as it is antiquated now.

I did this recently also to revive a dead 8800 Ultra, has been been working fine for a couple of months since I baked it, whereas it just froze the system and glitched a lot before. I was stoked when I put it back together and it was working!!!

It was either upgrade the car or electronic gadgets, gadgets ended up winning so this is what I'm in the process of putting together.

CPU: i7 930 (Aiming to OC to at least 3.8ghz).
HDD: 4x 1TB SpinPoint F3 (Supposedly fastest 7200RPM HDDs)
SSD: Corsair Nova Solid State Drive 64GB (only for OS + light programs).
RAM: 6GB DDR3 1600MHZ OCZ Gold XTC /w Heat spreaders (hopefully will OC to 1700-1800). Was initially thinking about 9GB of this, but maybe a bit overkill.
Graphics Card: Undecided yet, torn between 5870 vs 5770 in crossfire.
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW (24" 1900x1200)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5
PSU: Corsair 850HX

Already got:
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred gamer (7x 140mm blue/red ledded Antec/cooler master sickleflow fans + 1x 200mm Antec 'big boy' fan).
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster V8
(Currently using both of them, they are absolutely awesome).
Sound card: Soundblaster X-fi xtremegamer (can't justify upgrading this yet).
Speakers: Logitech G51s
Keyboard: Logitech Wave
Mouse: Logitech Performance M950
External HDD: WD 1TB USB for backup etc + 320GB E-Sata WD for mobility.

Purpose: All round, need lots of widgets open to track stocks, forex etc, some web design/image editing, VMWare, Lots of MS Office stuff, storage of lots of things both personal + work and of course some gaming.

Any suggestions!?!
