I'm with spark and have fibreMax I get 940 down and 400 up but when i do a tracert to a server in syd i see there is a huge ping jump when i go from one auckland gateway to another is that normal? Also my mate who lives in the same city/town does not have the same problem yet his first hop goes to 219-89-176-1-fibre.bb.spark.co.nz and my first hop goes to 125-239-249-1-adsl.bb.spark.co.nz

My guess is that that hop is not merely within Auckland but rather across to Australia, despite the IP. The thing is, from Auckland to Sydney is over 2000 km (measured on Google Maps), which at the speed of light (3 x 108 ms-1) takes 6.7 ms. In a fibre it'll take longer, before considering the delay in routers and repeaters. And that is a ping, which requires a round-trip which doubles that. And after #6, there's only another 2 ms.

The jump I'd be concerned about is at #2 – #3. Which might be something to do with the fact that your first hop is going to adsl.bb.spark.co.nz (which is strange of itself, as that would surely be for ADSL?). My suggestions would be to check if you can change where the first hop goes somehow (possibly in your router settings), and failing that, contact Spark (after all, you do have a comparison point which says it should be faster).
