one of my friends wants 3D for his computer. his monitor (tv) has 3D but we're not sure about the card. its an ATI 5770. will any new card do 3D, or will he need a specific type?

Pretty sure the HD5770 doesn't do 3D... However the Nvidia GTX4xx series and the AMD Radeon HD6xxx series all do 3D.

http://www.nvidia.co...quirements.html
Most cards since the 8800 will do nvidias 3D
And only the 6xxx series does 3D for AMD

As for your friends card it wont do 3D due to the limitations of it outputs, this is because the evergreen series of GPUs only had support for HDMI 1.3a, which doesnt have enough bandwidth for full on 3D, also because AMD didnt really believe in the 3D fad back then.

constructive post for the day:
Hooking it up to your TV? that probably means bluray... and i dunno a lot bout that driver slayers on bout but im doubting it does bluray 3d or any of that stuff.
All ive seen is some pretty weak benchmarks done by toms on it, if a 5870 barely can, 5770 wont be able to game with it

Wow, 3D televisions already?
If your friend can afford a 3D tv, he can afford a better graphics card.
