Might just buy the Bioshock Triple pack for Infinite (1, 2 + Infinite) - already have the other 2. If anyone wants to grab Bioshock 1 + 2 off me then PM me.

I'm playing through Bioshock at the moment. I'm really enjoying it but it really bugs me that there's no achievements :( Nothing makes me steamroll through a game like achievements. I think the best part about Bioshock is the setting and art style, gameplay on the first game isn't too well suited to PC, switching through weapons and plasmids is quite hard to manage compared to Infinite. I'm playing on easy at the moment but I might go through on hard after. The thing about harder difficulties is that it's a lot harder to be immersed in the story because you're always busting your ass so hard trying not to lose health haha.

I thought it was better without achievements to be honest - I find the sound and notification distracting and immersion breaking. You can hold (Shift I think) to go to a quick select screen which allows you to select a weapon or you can just click on an ammo type to select that weapon with that ammo type equipped. But yeah, the controls could do with a tweak. Once you have beaten it on the hard difficulty then you should try 'Silvers Bioshock Mod' which is a collection of files that change loads of variables relating to loot, damage, health, prices, resistences etc. In the unmodded game its pretty easy to amass huge piles of cash and have ADAM to burn. The mod makes you consider the use of EVE, ADAM, money and ammo alot more - its awesome!

Edit: Dont forget to use the awesome tweakguide to tweak visuals, controls and other config settings:

Sound? I was meaning Steam achievements not that GFWL crap.

Yeah I don't like the shift thing much, it's kinda clunky, I've taken to just using scroll, it lacks finesse but you get used to it I suppose. I looked through that Tweakguide before I started playing and I didn't notice anything particularly important -Save for mouse acceleration which I have yet to fix.

Thought you meant GFWL :S I generally just scroll too although you can use the number keys to select weapon.

Understandable, the original achievements were an Xbox thing I guess. Man I hate GFWL lol. Yeah the numbers are alright but using the F keys for plasmids sucks ><

Dont you just have plasmid/weapon toggle on right click? So right click to switch between plasmids and weapons and then scroll between them with the wheel? Thats what i do.

What's the point of getting a Java textbook at all? I would have thought there was loads of info on the net – far more than you'll ever need.

I want a proper book. I don't really like reading on a screen, particularly if I have to complete exercises at the same time. Might be time for another U2312HM? ;)

Yeah, I agree about a proper book vs an e-book in any form. And I guess if you're just learning a book is the best option – once you've got the basics covered, then you can easily just look up the specific thing you need help with when appropriate.

I'm getting Java Foundations by Lewis, DePasquale and Chase. Trying to lowball some poor guy for one on TradeMe, failing that I can get one from a former COMP160 student for $40.
